Let me tell you a bit about me and what I think of Massage Therapy.

I am a former Red Seal-certified Chef. I once worked crazy long hours and existed in a constant state of anxiety and stress. That anxiety and stress kept me organized, speedy, and fearful of making any sort of mistake – all good for working in professional kitchens. Sure, a certain amount of stress is a good thing. Heaps and heaps of it, not so much. I remember my GP of 10 years telling me, "you know this lifestyle isn't sustainable for you, right?" She was probably referring to the looooong hours, late nights, and self-inflicted pressure to be tough, to be creative, and to be innovative. She was right. If I valued my health and happiness (and the possibility of weekends off), I needed to leave that industry.

Because I suspected she might be on to something, I made the big career switch, moving from restaurants to massage school for several reasons: I wanted to nurture health in myself but also in others; I was good with my hands and enjoyed working with them; and my knowledge of butchery had given me a strong grasp of anatomy (morbid but true). Massage therapist seemed a great option for my next career.

It was! I had a love/hate relationship with massage school. It was really challenging. Back when I graduated, an RMT completed 3000 hours of classroom instruction (theory and hands-on practical) in subjects such as Anatomy, Myology (the study of muscles), Arthrology (the study of joints), Neuro-Anatomy (my favourite class), Pain and Stress, Professional development, heaps of Osteology... We had to trace the route of every major nerve, artery, and vein; and recite the names of every bone and every muscle in the human body! I had many beloved flashcards (and a very helpful husband).
I have been practicing massage for 10 years now, and I love it. I enjoy building my professional relationships with clients, and working with them to realize their health care goals; to support them and curate a treatment plan that is unique and thoughtful of their specific needs. I truly believe that healing can begin when we work together. For me that means that once we build up our mutual trust and rapport, my clients will feel comfortable to share with me the important health information that I can then use to piece together the perfect treatment to guide them to wellness. I want to nurture a safe space where my clients feel comfortable to relax and reflect on the changes occurring during their treatment. My work is to highlight the areas and systems that are in need of change, and to start the conversation with your body of how to heal them. Your job is to show up and listen.

Absolutely! I am knowledgeable about the recovery and rehab of many common and not so common injuries. Let's get you out of pain and into a stronger, happier, educated state.
I want to maintain my current body state, is that cool?
You bet! You don't need a specific ailment to book a treatment with me. I think maintenance treatments are a good way to avoid body burnout.
I am having a baby! Can I get massage?
YES! and I can't wait to see you. I have a soft spot for moms. Anywhere along your motherhood journey, I would be honoured to help and support you. I even have pregnancy pillows so you can lie on your belly (but we can pillow you up in any position that you feel most comfortable in)! And when the baby is ready I can massage them too!

I'd love to. No judgment, ever. I believe in the power of positivity. Good for you for taking care of yourself.
I want to relax and zone out, is that okay?
Yes! Massage helps activate your rest and digest response (your parasympathetic nervous system). Snore if you want to!
My baby is so cute and wants massage too, what do you think?
I think your baby is in for a treat! Lots of caregivers like to fold massage into their baby's bedtime or nap time routines to help with winding down for sleep. Some parents use it to stimulate their baby to get ready for moving their body. Massage has a wide range of benefits for babies and their growing bodies and approaching milestones; it can help with bedtime, colic, caregiver bonding, torticollis, hip issues, and more.I love teaching parents how to massage their babies. And I love helping babies get to know their bodies and introducing them to massage.
